What is an SMPS and PoE?

SMPS and PoE are both power-related technologies frequently used in modern electronics, with SMPS being a method to generate power and PoE being a method to deliver it.

SMPS (Switched-Mode Power Supply) :

SMPS stands for Switched-Mode Power Supply. It is an electronic circuit that converts power using switching devices (like transistors) that turn on and off at high frequencies to maintain a stable, efficient output voltage.
To efficiently convert AC mains power to lower-voltage DC power for electronics.
High efficiency (often 80-90%+), compact size, and lightweight.
Computers, chargers, LED lighting, and industrial equipment.
Unlike traditional "linear" power supplies, which are bulky and generate high heat, SMPS units are more efficient and smaller.

PoE (Power over Ethernet) :

PoE stands for Power over Ethernet. It is a technology that allows network cables (Cat5e/Cat6) to carry both data signals and electrical power to devices over a single cable.
To eliminate the need for separate power adapters and electrical wiring for network devices.
Simple installation, flexibility in device placement, and cost savings.
VoIP phones, IP cameras, wireless access points (APs), and IoT sensors.
